Description
A large wooden spoon 600 millimetres long and 60 wide. This is cauldron equipment — for cooking ajvar, plum butter and the big autumn batches, not for a kitchen stove.
Sixty centimetres puts the hand well away from an open fire, and the wide bowl moves enough of the mass to be worth the effort over a cook of several hours.
Beech, cut and shaped from solid wood. At this length the grain has to run straight or the spoon flexes under a thick mass.
For scraping the bottom of a cauldron, a flat paddle works better. The large spoon is for lifting and turning the mass, and the two are usually used together.
