Description
A round board 350 millimetres across, with a flat surface and a finished edge. The size covers the widest range of uses — from pizza and bread to a shared serving for a table of four to six.
It has no dividers and no handle, so it is used on both faces: one stays for cutting, the other for serving. The 19 millimetre thickness gives it the weight that keeps it in place.
The panel is beech, glued up from several lengthwise staves. At 35 centimetres across a solid piece is not possible — it would warp and split, because wood moves across the grain. The shift of tone across the surface is the staves themselves.
A diameter of 35 centimetres takes a larger pizza and a flatbread, so at home this board replaces both a tray and a cutting base. Because of the weight it usually stays on the worktop rather than in a cupboard.
