Description
Crate 1, 250 × 170 × 120 millimetres, with sides of four-millimetre plywood. A small open crate for packing, display or gifting — the format shops use to present goods without unpacking them.
Plywood sides keep the weight down and the walls thin, so the crate holds more for its outside size than a solid-timber one would. The frame is wood.
Four-millimetre plywood is stable across its width and does not split when nailed close to an edge, which is what makes it the standard material for light crates.
Crates of this size are used for gift sets — a bottle with glasses, preserves, or a selection of small items packed in straw or paper. The crate is part of the present rather than the packaging thrown away.
