Description
A bread basket of 250 × 140 × 90 millimetres — the open wooden box that goes on the table with the bread already in it. It holds a sliced loaf standing or a mix of rolls.
The sides are 9 centimetres high, enough to keep slices upright so the bread does not spread across the table. Open at the top, so bread is taken without the basket being passed.
Wood, assembled as an open box. Wood breathes, so bread in a wooden basket does not sweat the way it does in a closed plastic container.
A bread basket is usually lined with a cloth, which keeps the bread warm and makes the basket easy to empty of crumbs — the cloth is shaken out rather than the basket washed.
