Description
Half a metre across. This is a banquet board — the format for a wedding table, a buffet or a restaurant that serves whole selections rather than portions.
Flat and uninterrupted throughout, so the arrangement is entirely open. The rim is rounded, which also makes the board easier to grip when it is full and heavy.
Beech, glued up from several lengthwise staves. At 50 centimetres gluing is the only way: a solid panel this wide would cup, split at the end grain, and never sit flat again.
A board of this size is also used as a base — platters, bowls and a cutting board are set on it, and the whole arrangement is carried out as one piece.
