Description
A round board of 25 centimetres — the diameter of a dinner plate, which is what makes it the most used size of the round range. One course fits on it without crowding.
The circular shape is practical on a crowded table: it takes up less of the surface than a rectangle of the same usable area, and it can be turned rather than moved.
Beech, glued up from several lengthwise staves. Above 12 centimetres a solid panel warps, so the board is built from staves to keep it flat.
A round board of this size is often used as the base under a bowl or a hot pot — the wood insulates the table, and the board can be turned to bring a handle round to the hand.
