Description
A board cut to the outline of a pig — a shape that belongs to a butcher’s counter, a smokehouse or a kitchen that serves roast and cured meat. The outline is recognisable from across a room.
The surface is flat and takes cutting as any board does; the shape is what sets it apart. The edges follow the outline and are finished smooth, with no sharp points.
Beech, glued up from several lengthwise staves. Beech is hard enough that a knife mark stays shallow, which matters on a board that is also on display.
Boards in this shape are bought as much for the wall as for the worktop. Butchers hang them behind the counter; households use them for serving and hang them back up afterwards.
