Description
An oval platter 460 × 280 millimetres, flat and undivided, with a pronounced alternation of light and dark bands across the surface. It has no dividers, so it takes any arrangement — from a roast to a cheese board.
Those bands are the staves the panel is made of, laid so the tones alternate. The pattern repeats on no two pieces, because it depends on the wood itself.
Gluing from several staves is not a choice at this width but a necessity: a solid piece 28 centimetres wide would warp and split. Beech is hard and dense, does not take on smells and stands up to daily use in a kitchen or a hospitality venue.
With no division, this platter is also used as a base under other dishes, not only as a serving piece. In that case the stave pattern becomes part of the table setting.
