Description
An oval platter 460 × 280 millimetres, divided by cut lines into three fields. One dish thus carries three things at once — the main course, a side and a sauce — while keeping the shape of an ordinary platter, with no dividers standing up.
The lines are shallow and cut into the panel itself, just enough to separate the food and keep juices in their own field. The surface stays flat, so the platter empties and wipes out easily.
The panel is beech and glued up from several lengthwise staves. At 28 centimetres wide a solid piece would warp and the platter would rock on the table; glued staves pull against one another and the base stays flat.
Beech does not take on smells and does not absorb fat, so the same platter serves different dishes without carrying anything over.
