Description
Thirty-five centimetres across, raised on a stand. At this diameter the board carries a whole cake with room around it, or a cheese selection presented above the rest of the table.
The stand lifts the surface clear, and the board comes off it when a flat board is needed instead. The two parts store together and take up the space of one.
Beech, glued up from several lengthwise staves, which keeps the disc flat. A board that sits on a central stand shows any cupping at once, so flatness matters more here than on a board laid on a table.
Bakeries and cake shops use raised boards in the window: height brings the item to the customer’s eye line rather than leaving it below the counter edge.
